 Como supondréis, la instalación de mercadillos callejeros, va intimamente relacionada con el clima de la propia ciudad de Nueva York. Con el frío.

Por consiguiente pocos hay en los meses que van desde Diciembre -en que escasean- pasando por los siguientes hasta  Marzo, en los que no hay ninguno por razones obvias.

Llega Abril y empiezan a asomar timidamente, para eclosionar y llenar la ciudad en los meses en los que el tiempo acompaña.

Con la llegada de los fríos, cada vez van quedando menos mercadillos callejeros en las calles de Nueva York.

Aquí tenéis los correspondientes a Noviembre y Diciembre.

A mi particularmente me fascina la Fête du Noel que tiene lugar en Bryant Park.

Un precioso lugar junto la Public Library y que tiene como principal aliciente, no solo su entorno y situación, sino además  su pìsta de patinaje sobre hielo y sus precioso puestos de ventas de objetos navideños.

No se debe de olvidar pasar tambien por el Holiday Market de Union Square

 En el primer viaje a la City , estábamos alojados por entonces en el Hotel Marriott Marquis de Times Square, en este primer viaje ,digo, una de las cosas que mas me sorprendió fue el observar como se cerraba una avenida principal –la Séptima- para dar cobijo a un enorme mercadillo callejero donde podías no solo comprar ropa, alta bisutería, objetos de todo tipo; sino que además  podías comer todo tipo de comida internacional y unos postres deliciosos con la compañía de las interpretaciones de los músicos callejeros.

 En pleno Manhattan!!!!

 Se trata pues de  el abrir estos posts, repito, para  disponer de un sitio donde albergar los mercadillos de forma MENSUAL. Cada mes ,incluiré en este blog , una lista de los mercadillos. Desde Abril hasta Noviembre, que es la época habitual. De Diciembre (aunque algunos hay, la navideña Fête du Noel en Bryant Park es simplemente cautivadora) a Marzo hace muchísimo frío.

 UNA SELECCIÓN A MODO DE ENTRADA

 Union Square Greenmarket:

Sin duda uno de los mejores lugares de la ciudad donde conseguir frutas y verduras frescas, traídas hasta el corazón de la Gran Manzana por granjeros dedicados al cultivo de productos orgánicos. Además de frutas y verduras, encontramos todo tipo de bizcochos y panes caseros, flores, zumos naturales, mermeladas… Los mejores productos de temporada en un espacio tan popular como Union Square en su extremo norte, frente a Barnes & Nobles. Muchos son los neoyorkinos que se acercan hasta allí para asegurarse que lo que se llevan a la boca son los mejores y más frescos sabores de los productos de temporada. Lunes, miércoles, viernes y sábados de 8.00 a.m. a 6.00 p.m.

 97th Street Greenmarket

Menos popular y más pequeño que el el Union Square, cuenta también con una buena variedad de frutas y verduras frescas, así como pan y postres caseros. Lo encontramos los viernes por la mañana en la 87 entre Ámsterdam y Columbus Avenue.

‘Mercado de las pulgas’ – Hell’s Kitchen
Dentro de la lista de los 10 mejores mercados callejeros del mundo publicada por Nacional Geographic, se encuentra este ‘Flea Market’. Situado en la calle 39 entre las avenidas 9 y 10, encontramos allí un excelente espacio si buscamos ropa tanto de décadas pasadas como propuestas más futuristas. Es un punto de encuentro de las ‘celebrities’ neoyorkinas que funciona desde hace más de 30 años. Abre los sábados y domingos por la mañana y no puedes perderte sus puestos de zapatos, ropa retro, pieles, vintage, discos de vinilo… Antigüedades y objetos de decoración completan la oferta en casi 200 puestos callejeros.

 La Marqueta:

Marqueta en ‘spanglish’ significa Mercado. Este espacio fue creado por el alcalde Fiorello La Guardia en el año 1936 con la intención de agrupar en un mismo espacio a todos los puestos callejeros ambulantes. Hoy sigue funcionando tras su renovación en 1996. Mitad cubierto, mitad al aire libre, en él podemos encontrar prácticamente de todo pero destacan las múltiples variedades culinarias procedentes de toda Latinoamérica. No es de extrañar, ya que nos encontramos en Spanish Harlem, situado bajo el Metro North de Park Avenue (entre calles 110 y 116). Abierto entre semana.

 Soho Antique Fair and Collectibles Market

Entre Broadway y Grand Street, encontramos este mercadillo donde de 9 a 5 de la tarde, una centena de puestos y tenderetes donde pasar un buen rato rebuscando tesoros perdidos.
